Interview: William Prentice, CEO, Meridian Energy Group
Prentice discusses the Davis Refinery coming to Belfield, ND, and how it will be the first greenfield refinery to be built in the US in more than 50 years. He explains how the Davis Refinery has the advantage of leveraging the latest, and best available control technology to meet even the strictest environmental and safety regulations put forth.
One example of using the latest technology is how the Davis refinery will use natural gas as the fuel source to run the facility, which will enable the Davis Refinery to produce near zero-sulfur diesel and jet fuels. In addition, providing cleaner diesel fuel locally will displace transportation fuels that are refined and delivered from remote areas, which will help significantly reduce transportation-related pollution in the area.
Prentice also discusses the local job impact the refinery will have. After the facility is complete, the economic impact of the Davis Refinery is estimated at 2,500 jobs, according to a study conducted by the State of Washington of the social impact of a refinery in Anacortes.
