Where The Past, Present And Future Meet In Energy, Environment And Government
/

Scott St. JohnReagan Smith, joins The Crude Life Content News Correspondent Ken Lavin live at NAPE 2022 in Houston TX.  The two discuss how the environmental and cultural past impact the present and future projects.

Primarily the interview discusses how Indian (Native American) land, Federal Land and cultural archeology can become a major part of an oil and gas lease.

“It’s a broad scope but you have to comply with all the regulations that are association with that,” St. John said. “For example, the ARC (Archaeology and National Preservation Act) side of things has the National Preservation Act, you have to comply with that. So we have archeologists on staff that ensure we do all the necessary studies and reports for that project and submit it.”

St. John continues with several other examples of how the “nexus” of environment, energy and government are converging.

Lavin even joins in on citing examples from his days working in the oilfield mud.

“We were actually working on a well, I was still very young in the oilfield at the time, and we had to shut down and go home because we were on Indian territory and they then had actually found remains on location,” Lavin recalled.  “So all these years I fast forward to today and now I know you guys are the ones behind that. I’m impressed.”

The conversation literally was all over the map and timeline as the two discussed how the past, present and future are telling the story of energy and environment, but they were able to stay focused and talk about today’s marketplace.

“Look Ken here’s the deal, today oil is at $90 and our plans for 2022 is to make sure we have a healthy industry and that our clients and future clients who are drilling on federal land do not have any fear of this administration or regulations,” St. John said. “Anywhere in the country it’s the same process and we want to get everyone prepared to drill so that when prices are right, they are ready.”
