The Texas Railroad Commissioner Race Sees Major Transition As Early Voting Starts

One of the hottest political races in the country is happening in Texas right now.  It’s the Texas Railroad Commissioner race and it’s got everything a salacious political race could ask for, and some reality you wish that wouldn’t have happened at all.

Candidate Marvin Leon “Sarge” Summers fell victim to one of the issues we was so passionate about – road safety.  The City of Midland police say 69-year-old Sarge of Lubbock died of injuries suffered when his Cadillac Escalade struck the back of a tractor-trailer cargo tank in the 7200 block of State Highway 349 around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the Midland Police Department, the truck was in the outside lane of the highway making a right turn onto a private drive. Officers determined the SUV did not slow down as the truck was turning and struck the trailer from behind.

Sarge’s passion for industry and advocacy is truly what this race is about.  Reality.  The reality of the roads.  The reality of flaring.  The reality of government subsidies.  The reality of the environment.  And most importantly, the reality of the people.

Just to give you an idea what Sarge Summers and others are talking about when they discuss road safety in the Permian Basin, only 2% of Texas’ population is in the Permian Basin, but 11% of traffic fatalities in the state occur on roads in the area.

The family of Sarge Summers will celebrate his life of 69 years at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at the Trinity Church. His family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, February 14, 2022, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers.

Now to the political race.  Let’s start with the newspaper industry and the Associated Press.  Their writers still account for the majority of the original news content on the Internet.  I would even argue many of the TikTok video and Twitter Tweets that are considered “original content” are just reactions to what the Associated Press and Stringer Journalists report on.   With that editorialized statement, let’s continue with this non-political article on politics.

The Houston Chronical writer Chris Tomlinson just released an Op/Ed piece on incumbent Wayne Christian that wasn’t the most flattering.  Well you can decide for yourself with the story link below, but the “spoiler alert” headline is “Republican Voters Need To Fire Texas Railroad Commissioner Wayne Christian

Christian owns an investment company and is a registered representative of Sun America Securities Inc. of Center, Texas. The representative was born in Center, raised in nearby Tenaha, Texas, and now lives in Center.

He is a 1973 graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, where he received a bachelor’s degree in business and minored in marketing. The university is in Christian’s state House district, and his official online biography highlights his efforts in passing a bill to allow the university to renovate its student center

Rather, the editorial board for The Houston Chronicle endorse challenger Dawayne Tipton.

Tipton was born in Searcy, Arkansas. Tipton earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Arkansas in 2003. His career experience includes working as a project manager with Aereon, a lead customer support manager with GE Oil & Gas, and an offshore risk engineer with Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty.

Also challenging Christian, is the young and charismatic Sarah Stogner Rocking The Vote by releasing her own oilfield version of the Janet Jackson Justin Timberlake Halftime Show combined with a Paris Hilton Carl Jr commercial on TikTok.  Check out the video below.

@theunicornlawyer They said I needed at least $1MM to win a state election. #sarah4rrc #dobetter #biggame #govote #texascheck #oilfield #sorrymom #unicorntribe #untamed ♬ Apache – The Sugarhill Gang

and on Twitter

and Instagram too.   But not on LinkedIn, which is supposed to be a professional networking site, however with all the downward angled stting in the vehicle shots and party pics the oilfield professionals post, Stogner’s post would have probably blended in more than most would think.

That’s why Sarah Stogner has separated herself from the pack.  Not only is she a female, but she has the courage to fight back in patriarchal politics.  When men take their gloves off to fight dirty in politics, Stogner takes her gloves and top off in order to clean it up.

Plus she is showing how she can connect with the youth as someone who isn’t afraid to take on ethics in energy.  It has nothing to do with oil companies, Stogner has said from Day One that it’s about the people abusing the system, and in her opinion based on past interviews on this platform and others, it is the Texas Railroad Commission that has been abusing the system and playing favorites.

Stogner also picked up an endorsement of the San Antonio Express News, click here for the story link

Sarah Stogner was born in Huntsville, Alabama. Stogner earned a B.S. in international trade and finance from Louisiana State University in 2005 and a J.D. from Louisiana State University in 2008. Her career experience includes founding Stogner Legal and working as an oil and gas attorney. Stogner has been affiliated with the Texas and Louisiana state bar associations, the Federal Bar Association, the Women’s Energy Network, the Association of Energy Service Companies, and the Texas Oil & Gas Association.

Speaking of newspaper endorsements, Tom Slocum Jr. picked up his first one this week as well, the Amarillo Pioneer published this OP/ED – Slocum Right Choice for Conservatives in RRC GOP Primary

Tom Slocum Jr. earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University in 2005. Slocum’s career experience includes working as an oil and gas consultant, the vice president of operations of Artemis Energy, Inc., and the chief compliance officer of Fenix Petroleum Group LLC. He founded the Texas Well Protected Energy Foundation.

One of the three spots on the Texas Railroad Commission is up for grabs this year. Incumbent Wayne Christian faces four challengers in the Republican primary, and a single candidate, Luke Warford, is listed in the Democratic primary. Despite the name, ironically, the Texas Railroad Commission doesn’t regulate railroads, rather, its primary role is to regulate the state’s oil and gas industry.

General election candidates for the Republican primary are: incumbent Wayne Christian, Tom Slocum Jr., Sarah Stogner, Marvin Summers, and Dawayne Tipton  for Texas Railroad Commission on March 1, 2022. Early voting lasts from Monday through Feb. 25, and election day is March 1.
