Zakk Ross To Perform National Anthem On Guitar At Energy EXPO

The Crude Life is honored to announced that 18-year-old Zakk Ross will perform the National Anthem on his guitar at the Energy Exposition before Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon speaks to the crowd on September 1.

Zakk graduated from Campbell County High School this year and is currently enrolled at Northwest College, a community college in Powell, WY, to study music.

Zakk is an amazing guitarist and huge fan of rock guitar legend Eddie Van Halen. This summer he aged out and graduated from Rock Band Camp and had these words for the younger rock stars in the making.

He was recently featured in an article from the Associated Press. Click here for the article

“If there’s a period in your life where you’re not having fun playing music, just make sure it’s like a habit where you at least pick up and keep it with you,” Ross told his bandmates before their graduation concert. “That happened to me during COVID and stuff, so I’m really happy to be playing again because I freaking love it, and I’m just having lots of fun.”

Ross and several other students also made the news for their love of music. After Eddie Van Halen died in October of 2020, Zakk and three other Campbell County High School students (Braden Hoeffner, Adrian Macias and Kendall McKee) spent six hours painting the camel sculpture at CCHS in the iconic Van Halen Frankenstein red and white striped design.

The idea originated with Ross, who wanted to pay respect and tribute to a guitarist who helped shape his passion for music. He knew about the 1980s rock megagroup Van Halen from his father, an American coal worker.

Zakk will be engaging with the Energy Exposition crowd Wednesday September 1 before his National Anthem performance. Zakk is skipping (or missing) his first day of college for this opportunity to perform the National Anthem in the CAM-PLEX Wyoming Center.
