The Expanded Unemployment Benefits
The Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act provides three important expansions to unemployment:
- Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA): expands unemployment benefits to the self-employed, freelancers and independent contractors
- Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC): Gives benefit recipients and extra $600/week on top of state determined benefits through July 31st.
- Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC): provides 100% federal funding for states to provide up to 13 weeks of additional compensation after regular unemployment compensation ends.
