Shepstone: Small Business Important in Oil and Gas, Economy
/

Tom Shepstone, NaturalGasNow.org, gives an update on the recent COVID-19 Shutdown and coronavirus impact on the oil and gas industry in the Marcellus Region. Shepstone also goes a bit deeper in his update on the conversations about people living with a taste of socialism.

Shepstone responds to the question of whether the United States government is directing the people away from traditional small and family businesses towards franchises and public companies.

Shepstone gives pros and cons to the conversational question including examples of small businesses being quick and nimble, while often times struggling for political access and resources.

One interesting topic is the industry’s ideological crossroads of whether to allow government intervention or not. On one spectrum, Mike Sommers, president, API, immediately shuts down bail outs and government intervention. On the other hand, Parsley Energy CEO Matt Gallagher publicly discusses government intervention on CNBC.

The interview discusses how the oil and gas supply chain is made up of many sole proprietors and small family businesses and they were left out in the CARES Act funding.

President Donald Trump’s leadership during the COVID-19 Shutdown is bantered back and forth in the interview. From changing his tone to shift in language to ethical leadership. The question is asked whether we are being lead by people who still think everyone should get a trophy.

Natural gas, Planet of the Humans, wind subsides and state shutdowns are other topics of interest.
