The Crude Life Week In Review Episode 453: Ukraine, Emission Awareness, Carbon Capture And Sex Trafficking

Here are this week’s special guests on The Crude Life Week In Review Episode 453:

US Senator Kevin Cramer talks about his briefing with the Ukraine Parliament.

“[I met] with five members of the Rada, the parliament from Ukraine – all five of them moms, unfortunately for them, all the husbands and dads are back fighting. They were here fighting for their country with their legislative prowess. They were unified in their message and they were unanimous in their volume. They need lots of help and they need it now. In fact, yesterday would have been better. They were adamant. They were unified. They were strong. They have a sense of urgency about them. As one of the Members of Parliament said to us, ‘Freedom must be armed.’ She said ‘Be brave, be courageous, and be fast.’ That’s right. I think we are courageous. I think we are brave. But we’re not very fast and that’s been a problem,” said Senator Cramer.

They came to the U.S. Capitol to brief members of the Senate Ukraine Caucus on the latest regarding Russia’s unprovoked and unwarranted violent invasion of Ukraine and how else the U.S. Senate can support their nation. Ukrainian Parliament members in attendance included Lesia Zaburanna, Yevheniya Kravchuk, Anastasia Radina, and Maria Ionova. Polish Members of Parliament were also in attendance.

Wade Boeshans, Summit Carbon Solutions, talks about Harold Hamm‘s recent investment into Carbon Capturing and Carbon Solutions and their 5-state project.

Boeshans points out the 25-years of experience Continental Resources has with the geology and underground Bakken atmosphere.

“Continental Resources and their deep understanding of the Williston Basin and the geology which is a key component of our project of proposing to capture CO2 from ethanol plants across five states aggregate that CO2 into a pipeline system and deliver it to Western North Dakota for injection and permanent geological storage.”

Continental’s professional history and track record in the Bakken is a value-added asset to Summit Carbon Solutions and the project according to Boeshans.

“This project is purely a capture and sequestration project, it does not involve oil production,” Boeshans said. “Continental, as an oil and gas producing company, recognizes the market opportunity and market demands for lower carbon while ethanol producers and oil and gas producers working towards a common goal of reducing CO2 emissions.”

Midland Mayor Patrick Payton (left) talks with Jason Spiess (right)

Midland (TX) Mayor Patrick Payton discusses sex trafficking in the Permian Basin and what companies should consider.

“The thing that is alarming is you hear the word sex trafficking and your mind cannot comprehend how extensive it is,” Payton said. “It’s a $150B industry in the United States. Most children are groomed into sex trafficking before they are 17-years-old. It’s 12 or 13, it’s 8 or 9, these are hard things to hear but they are trafficked 30-to-40 times a day.”

Mayor Payton believes this is one area the industry can become very helpful and proactive like adding warning signs to safety classes and training curriculums.

“There’s a wake up happening towards this issue here in the Permian Basin. The average predator is an average white man 50-year-old,” Payton said. “We have to wake up to this, we have to make sure our industry wakes up to it and we have to make sure that at man camps and other places where they do safety meetings they are talking about more than the safety of wearing a hard hat but the safety of your sexuality and what is happening around you.”
