Clark Williams-Derry, Energy Finance Analyst for the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) shares his views and insight on a recent report “Has the Bakken Peaked? Exhaustion of High-quality Drilling Sites Could Point to Falling Oil Output”, which he was co-author of.

North Dakota’s last fifteen years of Bakken production are discussed, primarily the activity over the past decade. Williams-Derry points out that the “top brass of the Bakken” either filed bankruptcy or had to use COVID CARES Act pandemic money to stick around the Bakken over the past two years as examples of the play already showing signs of concern.
Williams-Derry also discuss DUCs, Enhanced Oil Recovery and how sunken costs and/or old mindsets may be the Bakken’s biggest issue right now.
