Year In Review 2020: Waiting for Opportunities, Waiting to Pounce

It’s time once again for our Annual Year In Review interviews! Last March 2020, Brandon Davis, Swan Energy, discusses the impact of COVID-19 around the workplace and industry. Davis shares what his company is doing and what the short terms plans are in case of an accelerated quarantine.

“…I can’t control what’s coming at me right now and it’s coming from many angles. From the oil price continuing to just plunge to like just generally people just not being able to go to work because the government’s telling them not to. I’m just sitting back watching and waiting for an opportunity because at some point there will be something I can control that will make a difference.

At this point, it’s literally just kind of let it all come at you and you don’t react too quickly and your opportunity will present itself. That is true for all my businesses. I have an operating goldmine in Oregon, I have the trucking company Oklahoma, we have non-operated working interest in wells in Colorado and in Oklahoma and we have a little field we operate here in Texas through a company called Oak Energy. But all of its just kind of hanging out and waiting for an opportunity and when we see it we’re going to pounce…”

Davis reiterates the need to remain calm and process before reacting. How small business will respond and react to the state-suggested shut downs and quarantines. The thread of what will be world economy look like after the summer was bantered about, whereas no topic was left off the table – including nationalizing oil.

Colorado’s current vibe against oil and gas is also discussed and signs that occurred over the past five years. Davis comments about the importance of oil and gas in communities for not only economic development, but the cultivation of culture.

Davis shares his companies five-year-outlook as well as what their immediate needs and wants are. The interview also dives into the idea of service companies reducing their prices by 25%, the STACK, water haulers and the economy of servers.

Davis and Spiess mention the restaurant Cowboys and Indians as a place to support during these crazy times.
