Year In Review 2020: Godfather of the Bakken and General Qasem Soleimani

It’s time once again for our Annual Year In Review interviews!

Last January 2020, U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer explains how the death of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force General Qasem Soleimani will impact the energy economy, from the importance of energy infrastructure to geopolitical events.

The interview transitions to the recent increase in oil prices and oil icon Harold Hamm’s (Continental Resources) recent predictions and legacy in the Bakken, as well as the rest of shale play USA. Senator Cramer shares several stories about Hamm and explains why he is known as the “Godfather of the Bakken”.

“First of all Harold Hamm just known as of course the Godfather of the Bakken not because he discovered oil or because he was the first one to find it in North Dakota. He didn’t drill the first well but he did crack the code that code being the code that allows a horizontal drilling and fracking to work together and that’s what unlocked the shale in North Dakota and of course the country.

But he was very focused on specific north when he bet a lot on North Dakota as you know I think he had near a million mineral acres before before he before he cracked that code and was able to get that oil out of the ground. And of course everybody else followed up and there were a lot of other companies a lot of important companies, legacy companies. Large companies, as well as local smaller companies who’ve been able to benefit from from that that innovation, but it would be hard to overstate Harold’s impact on on the market.

But beyond that, he’s been a great corporate citizen. Harold has taken a real interest in North Dakota as as a you know, not as a boyhood home, but really as a second hole. He’s treated our state with with great integrity and he has been generous as a corporate citizen in North Dakota and of course is helped bring a lot of notoriety to the Bakken. That’s not again to diminish the role of several other CEOs and other companies but nobody’s really carried the flag like Harold has. His recent his recent announcement to step down as the CEO really doesn’t change much for Continental Resources. He remains of course as chairman of the board he’s got a very good team…”
