Classic Cadillac Cruising Route 66 from Calgary

On a sunny stretch of the legendary road in the Hometown of Route 66, a gleaming classic car drew crowds of admirers and camera phones. The standout was a striking 1976 Cadillac Eldorado convertible—one of the last true American convertibles from Cadillac’s golden era—and it happened to be for sale.

The owners, visitors from Alberta, Canada, were happy to share the story. They had owned the car for a little over a year and a half (after previously owning a couple of other Eldorados).

While not the official Bicentennial anniversary edition, the 1976 model carries special resonance as Cadillac’s 100th year and the American Bicentennial (1776–1976).

The car was proving itself on the open road.

“She’s going down the road just beautiful and we’re having a good time with her,” the owner said.

The couple was traveling Route 66 with friends from Calgary who own a 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass Convertible. After finishing the Route 66 trip, the Eldorado will be available for purchase in Tipton, Iowa, any time after October 1. By then it will have been thoroughly “tried and true and proven.”

He also highlighted a little-known fact about American firefighting: an estimated 65–75% of firefighters in the U.S. are still volunteers—something he suspected was similar in Canada’s vast rural areas.

In short, this 1976 Eldorado convertible is more than a classic car for sale. It’s a well-traveled piece of American automotive history currently making memories on Route 66, offered by Canadian owners who clearly enjoy sharing both the car and the journey.

Anyone interested can look for it in Tipton, Iowa, after October 1.
